You Have a Website But Nobody Calls — Here's Exactly Why

Malthe Dong · 20. maj 2026 · 7 min

You invested in a website. The phone still doesn't ring. These are the seven causes we see over and over — and what actually fixes each one.

You built the website. Maybe you even paid someone to do it. And yet — your phone doesn't ring. Your inbox stays empty. It's one of the most common frustrations we hear from small business owners, and the causes are almost always the same.

Here are the seven real reasons nobody is calling — and what to do about each one.

1. Google can't find you

A website that isn't indexed by Google is a shop with no address. Beautiful inside, invisible outside. Check Google Search Console to see which of your pages Google has actually indexed — you might be surprised.

2. You're ranking for the wrong keywords

Most websites are written to sound good, not to rank. Google doesn't reward eloquent copy — it rewards relevance. Your page needs to contain the exact phrases your customers type into Google. "We deliver exceptional craftsmanship" won't rank. "Electrician North London — rewiring and fuse board upgrades" will.

Quick test Search Google right now: "[your trade] [your town]". Does your website show up? Is it on page one? If not — that's your problem.

3. Your site is too slow

Google directly penalises slow pages in its rankings. And visitors who wait more than 3 seconds leave. Check your speed at Google's PageSpeed Insights — it's free, and it tells you exactly what's slowing you down.

4. No clear call to action

Visitors don't know what to do next. There's no prominent phone number, no obvious contact button, no invitation to act. Every page on your website should have one clear job: tell people to call you, book, or get a quote.

5. It looks broken on mobile

Over 70% of local searches happen on a phone. If your site is hard to navigate on a 6-inch screen — tiny buttons, text that overflows, forms that are impossible to fill in — you're losing the majority of your visitors before they've read a word.

6. You have no Google Business Profile

Many local searches end with someone calling directly from the Google Maps result — without ever visiting the website. Without an optimised Google Business Profile, you simply don't exist in local search. It's free to set up and one of the highest-ROI things you can do today.

7. You have no reviews

A competitor with 40 positive reviews will win over you with zero — regardless of how good your website is. Reviews are the single biggest factor in local ranking and customer decision-making. Start asking every satisfied customer for a Google review.
